About this course
This course is an enjoyable progression in the basics of communicating in Kernewek (Kemmyn) You will practise the four skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing, with an emphasis on speaking and comprehending spoken Cornish language. The course also provides an increased insight into Kernow’s native culture and is a continuation from the Introduction to Kernewek modules for beginners.

This Improvers’ Course is intended for those who have successfully completed Introduction to Kernewek modules for beginners, or a similar beginner’s course. Students who have informal prior learning in the Cornish Language are also welcome. Students are expected to be able to introduce themselves in Kernewek (giving basic information about their name, job, family, likes and dislikes), and who know the basics of Cornish pronunciation and to have an understanding of how to use the present tense.

|
How will I learn?
You will be invited to participate in a range of enjoyable activities including games, listening activities, and problem-solving tasks that will be developed by the tutor to suit the level of the course and also individual progress. You will be encouraged to practise between sessions to reinforce your learning.
|
What do I need to bring with me?
The course text books are :- • Holyewgh an Lergh (Kernewek Kemmyn) by Graham Sandercock • Skeul an Yeth 1 by Wella Brown, which is available as a free download. • Learners may also wish to obtain a Cornish – English Dictionary in Kernewek Kemmyn). About the tutor
Jaqi is a qualified Further Education Tutor and a fluent Cornish language speaker in Kernewek Kemmyn. It was the distant narrative of Celtic community that, whilst studying for a B.A. (Hons) in History and Society at Exeter university, first compelled Jaqi to follow a more Cornish pathway – one which she had long valued. Jaqi first became a Cornish Language Tutor in 2016 having successfully completed a qualification NCFE Award (Level 3) in Education and Training. In conjunction with Cornwall AdEd, she began to develop a series of beginners’ courses in Kernewek at classroom venues in Bude, Bodmin and St Dennis. There are now four courses, including Parts 1 – 3, which adapt well to online learning. As a tutor in Kernewek Kemmyn, she is someone who loves to meet with like-minded people who want to know more about Cornwall’s own language and culture.
