KITCHEN REFIT, FUNDING AND BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION! – We had a very busy week at the end of July with the 25 year old kitchen being ripped out, ready to be replaced with a nice shiny new one and new flooring (with thanks to a success grant with the Community Levelling Up Programme). Preparations are also underway to install new flooring into the large top room (which currently has outdated wood flooring) and the porch area (again with success with the CLUP).
Organisation is in full swing for a FREE community celebration highlighting ClayTAWC’s 25th Birthday and the purchase of the Centre building from the current landlords.
We were delighted to find out that we were successful with a grant from Cornish Lithium via Cornwall Community Foundation to contribute towards the production costs of the St Dennis Community News Magazine!

ASDA FOUNDATION GRANT FUNDING ‘It was lovely to catch up with the team at ClayTAWC recently to present them with a cheque for £600 on behalf of the Asda Foundation. The money will be spent on providing free workshops, including stress management, menopause awareness, and mental health support. The grant will also be used to support the centres community food cupboard, providing non perishable food and toiletries to those in need’. -Emma, Asda Community Champion

EXCITING NEWS! To preserve the continuation of the St Dennis Community News Magazine, from June 2024, ClayTAWC will be managing/running from the ClayTAWC Centre. We are already really excited about this opportunity and have some fresh new ideas to involve the community, other support services, boost informative content and spark interest!

ClayTAWC, the resident focussed hub at the centre of the community in St Dennis and the surrounding areas, has been awarded a grant of £96,565 by Cornwall Council from the £7.6m Community Levelling Up Programme (CLUP).
The CLUP investment will leverage an additional £73,894 of match funding from the St Dennis and Nanpean Community Trust, which distributes funds raised through a planning agreement linked to the incinerator in the area.
The CLUP grant to ClayTAWC, which is soon to become a registered charity, will go towards the purchase of the building from which it currently runs its services.
With the building secured as a local community asset, new services and projects will be put in place to help and engage with residents including working with Healthy Cornwall on self-harm awareness (children and young people), mental health awareness, mindfulness, meditation and sleep hygiene, and menopause awareness. The ClayTAWC team will also be working with Volunteer Cornwall and the NHS (Integrated Care Board) to deliver diabetes prevention activities.
The money will also improve the kitchen with the replacement of an old, energy inefficient cooker with a greener and more sustainable alternative that will help deliver a range of cooking-on-a-budget and healthy eating training sessions.
In addition, there will be a project to create an historic archive through the local Old Cornwall Society and the University of Exeter.
Local Cornwall Councillor and ClayTAWC Chairman of the Board of Directors Dick Cole said:
“ClayTAWC has been an extremely important community hub at the centre of St Dennis for over 24 years. Our lease on the Old School building is coming to an end, but the grants from Community Levelling Up and the St Dennis and Nanpean Community Trust mean that we will be able to purchase our centre and our important work will be able to continue.
“This is an exciting time for us, and we would like to thank everyone who has backed our funding applications. We look forward to boosting the provision of services and activities out of ClayTAWC for the people of St Dennis, Clay Country and even further afield.”
Cllr Louis Gardner, Cornwall Council portfolio holder for economy, said:
“We saw a lot of great applications come in for the first round of Community Levelling Up, with £1.75m shared by 28 projects. This is the first successful grant application from the second phase of the programme and is exactly the kind of levelling up community initiative that the funding was designed for.
